LA JOLLA SHORES COTTAGE GARDEN

This homeowner, two blocks from La Jolla Shores beach, wanted to be able to sit in front of the house and maintain a sense of privacy from all the foot traffic. She also needed a solution for the parkway so people could get out of their cars without trampling the landscape. We designed wavelike paths inspired by the nearby ocean. Wavey gravel paths provide a place to egress from cars and walk between plants. Bold and sturdy plants contrast nicely

To break up the long fence and guide visitors to the front door, we redesigned the entry gate with a Craftsman feel to better match the style of the house. Inside the fence we created several seating areas which we outlined with brick to match the front walk and porch. The sound of water welcomes guests in the form of an art piece with recirculating water.
